‘Casbar’ Brooklyn, N.Y.
Casbar! We had to do this one twice…
CASBAR: Brooklyn, 117 25th Street, Brooklyn, NY -
Casbar is located in a discrete enough area. and they do feature valet parking
Overall it really is not too shabby a place. The first time we went there the first thing I said was “this has kind of a dungeon feel to it”! Duh! Come to find out this was the infamous hellfire club! There are a few devices still on site and there is a type of glory hole booth there.
We went (both times) on a Saturday night since we do not do the single male thing.
Both times the entry fee was $80. Since we took a long drive to get there (We actually live way outside NYC like 3.5 hours away!…) the first thing I did was drop off my bottle at the bar and proceeded post-haste to the bathroom which was… clean! By my second time at Casbar I saw the reason why the bathrooms were so clean, they actually have someone who actually monitors the bathrooms on a regular basis this may not be important to you but I hate to go anyplace where the bathroom looks like a transit system restroom!
On the nights we went we really did see a nice mix of different ethnicities and ages I did get the impression however that there was a collective of couples that frequented the club when Casbar was the Hellfire Club. But at the end of the day that’s not a bad thing… The ages do span from young college age kids up to senior citizens. At times it felt a little weird seeing some one in their 60s walking around in something akin to a teddy but hey! Like I said in the book there is no law saying you have to dance with everybody, and hell I hope that I will still be swinging when I hit 60+!
But I digress…
The design of the club does leave a lot to be desired…
Like most clubs they do stream adult movies however they stream them to 13 inch tvs? I would really suggest that they invest in a couple of midsize flat screens and mount them to the wall.
The DJ was pretty decent on the nights that we went and he did play a nice mix of music the dance floor is kind of smallish however but the way everything is set up it really does not matter, the kewl thing is you can see the dance floor from any of the sitting areas.
The bar is a nice size and the ladies that work it are very pleasant. As this seems to be where people are seen and seeing other people but I will get to that a little later…
There are sitting areas throughout the club be it sofas at the bar or tables with chairs and once again the place is kept a little cleaner than some mainstream dance clubs. The staff will remove empty drinks, empty plates from people who were eating napkins and other garbage/refuse from public areas. We had seen a few reviews online claiming the place was dirty however for the most part it is kind of clean!
The play areas are…lets say…Different?
They have mat area/room that was not really used whilst we were there, I think I already went over the devices and gloryhole thingy…Then they have these little private room cubicles! It’s just a mat on the floor but there is a little slide door with a latch for privacy! The potential is just so hot! There is a person who sits and monitors the area and when a room is empty he will put more fresh sheets in the basket and get rid of the dirty ones however depending on how busy it is he may not get the used ones off the bed but this is not a hotel so just yank the old ones off and spread a new one down!
They also have rooms that have no door and have little alcoves so you can peek in and watch the action!
For a club that is promoting itself as a swing club it subtly brings a lot of fetishes into play which is why I think at the end of the day Casbar could really create its own niche!
I guess the fact that it was a dungeon is why the décor is kind of ‘blah’ that to me is kind of another one of the bad points about Casbar. It could be that they still have dungeon nights and only promote swing nights on Friday and Saturday. But if they are planning to do the swing thing exclusively they might want to spruce up the place a little, at the very least consider painting it another color!
My grandmother used to say that everything has its place. That kind of sums up Casbar! Although it could be one of the better swing clubs in NYC it is basically being held back by I guess you would say a lack of imagination… It is a very newbie friendly place, that is a great thing… and that is also part of the problem… It seems that many couples come to Casbar because they are curious about the lifestyle and there is nothing wrong with that! However if the place is full of people who’s main purpose is to be voyeurs nobody will probably be swinging and swapping! I think the management needs to find a way to make the club comfortable for newbies as well as full swap couples… it really is kind of unnerving to see a group of people walking around the club from room to room with their only intent being to see other people having sex! And at one point it seemed like it was a tourist trip with tour guide.
I think the main reason we went back before posting our review is that we did see that the place had potential and we wanted to see if maybe we just went on an off night. We do hope the management sees this and takes what we are saying as constructive criticism we really do see it as possibly being a great place… With its diverse makeup of patrons representing different ethnicities and ages a great comfort zone for the new and curious… They are at a point that some clubs that have been in existence for years are still trying to reach but that all seems to get lost in the mix because like we said …a lack of imagination.
The way I look at Casbar is that it’s kind of like cause and effect, for every negative there is a positive so I would have to give it a three out of five
